Arsenal 1-0 West Brom: Nasri Scores Debut

Samir Nasri scored on his debut as Arsenal won the first Premier League fixture of the season as but were pushed hard by a battling West Brom side.

Arsenal had a lot of joy down the left hand side early on, and it was Nasri who placed in from Denilson’s pass with four minutes on the clock. Clichy played in Denilson, and the Brazilian cut back with his left foot to set up Nasri for a cool finish.

Arsenal could have scored more in the first 15 minutes, Bendtner going the closest. West Brom’s best chances came when trying to beat the offside trap and could have equalised when Ishmael Miller’s shot was saved into the path of Robisnon, who’s shot was cleared off the line by Djourou. The momentary scare bought about an instant reaction with Adebayor going close on two occasions. Arsenal win 1-0 but were made to work hard by Tony Mobray’s team.

Middle Man

Eboue and Denilson started in central midfield but in truth failed to control and exert enough influence in the game meaning West Brom were still in the game. Eboue had the better of the game as both let the wide men create the chances and the full backs were very impressive again. Arsenal didn’t have many shots on target as they played the ball around the box one too many however encouragingly did shot from outside the box. Nasri looked dangerous cutting in and showed tremendous desire to track back and good balance to hold up the ball. The Baggies pressured high up the pitch and tried to beat Arsenal on the offside trap but Gallas dealt well with anything thrown by Miller.

Arsenal win the first match of the season not playing their best but things can only get better from this young Arsenal team.
