Mineiro has Trial at Arsenal

Brazilian midfielder Mineiro played in the 3-0 reserve win for Arsenal against Fulham in a closed door match as Arsenal monitor his fitness and ability before deciding whether to sign the veteran.

Arsenal had been linked recently with Stephen Appiah, 27 who is also a free agent but have opted to instead look at the much older Mineiro at 33. He would add depth and experience to the team and also not kill the development of youngsters if someone younger was signed. Likened to Marcos Senna not just because of their lack of hair but both are not your typical defensive midfielders but break forward aswell though can also play central midfield. He is small at 1.69m though very physical.

Mineiro is a late bloomer and was picked in Dunga’s squad for the 2007 Copa America, held in Venezuela aged 32. Released by Hertha Berlin after rejecting a £710,00 a year contract he will be likely not to ask for too high wages especially when the Gunners come knocking on your door at his age.

Arsenal Column feel that he will be a useful addition to the squad helping the youngster rather than getting in their way and providing depth. He will be assesed as he has not played regularly for a while before the Gunners decide to sign or not.

Thanks to YoungGuns as ever for provding the news first.
