Tactics Talk

Arsenal are expected to revert back to their usual 4-4-2 after playing a diamond formation against Bolton, Alex Song missing out replaced by Walcott. As with all teams playing Arsenal, Hull are expected to pressure highly the Gunners not allowing any space for the midfielders to work. The inclusion of George Boateng is expected to add steel and experience to the Hull team who look like they’re in for a long game.

The problem will be if the Tigers can handle Arsenal’s superior technique and movementas they are unlikely to have faced any team as good as Arsenal so far this season and also their career. Cousin will look to bully the Gunner’s defence with his power while Geovanni’s intelligence will try to be utilised to open the Arsenal defence.

Cesc Fabregas is yet to make an assist or score but his influence has been key this season and will look to cut open the Hull defence. Adebayor’s pace and strength should be too much and expect chances galore for the Togolese man.

Key Battles

Walcott v McShane: McShane has shored up the Hull defence since his arrival but has shown his vulnerability last season for Sunderland. Theo is bubbling and his pace should be too much for the Irishman.

Cousin v Gallas: Hull’s main threat will come from the strong and direct Cousin so Gallas will have to be on his toes. His pace and recovery speed should allow him to keep up with the frontman and keep in his pocket.

Prediction: 4-0
