Arsenal left it late to break down a stubborn West Ham side who were well organised. A lack of movement upfront and Robert Green’s heroics nearly got the Hammers a point but Emmanuel Adebayor had other ideas. The Togolese man made all the difference and credit must also go to Wenger who changed the formation for the better in the second half.
Manuel Almunia (7): Commanding as ever around the box though not much to save, his presence and communication was comforting for the defense.
Emmanuel Eboue (6): Beaten a couple of times by Bellamy’s pace but overall defended well and tried to support the attack when he could.
William Gallas (7): The captain put the ‘picture’ behind him by putting a mature and commanding performance in handling Cole.
Mikael Silvestre (7): Did better under the partnership of Gallas and put in some strong headers too.
Geal Clichy (7): Defensive-wise he was strong as ever however deciding against committing himself forward when Arsenal were looking for a goal. His covering was superb. Booked
Theo Walcott (6): In the tight situations he couldn’t force the defender to the byline but was dangerous the times he was allowed the space. Subbed
Cesc Fabregas (7): Was a tough match to find space but was the only player who looked like he did have some. Kept passing but the movement was lacking upfront. Booked
Alex Song (7): Came in for Denilson and had a good game. Pressured well and helped the attack. Booked
Samir Nasri (6): Couldn’t make the impact as he was denied space though he kept the ball well. Needs to develop his dribbling on the outside. Subbed
Nicklas Bendtner (7): First half his movement was lacking, especially off the ball deciding to move to the wings in order to get the ball. Adebayor’s introduction shifted him to the left and his link up improved.
Robin Van Persie (7): Frustrating day it could have turned out to be as he had the best chances. Hit the post and caused a couple of good saves. Subbed
Man of the Match- Emmanuel Adebayor* (8): (On for Walcott) Changed the game when he came on with his directness and link up play. Set up one and scored the other.
Abou Diaby (6): (On for Nasri) Added steel to Arsenal’s midfield to help hold on to the lead.
Bakary Sagna (5): N/A
