Tactics Talk: After being so comprehensively beaten by the Arsenal youngsters in the Carling Cup, Wigan play the senior Arsenal team who strangely enough will feel more confident of coming away with a result. This time Wigan have Heskey at their disposal so the 4-5-1 played in the Carling Cup will probably turn to 4-4-2.

Taylor is likely to be dropped for Melchiot but the Liverpool born full back is dangerous with his deliveries which will be key in supplying Heskey. The England striker plays high on the defender’s shoulder and his strength and ability in the air is a big threat but he is also no slouch on the ground.

Valencia v Clichy will be an interesting match up though the match is likely to be won and lost if Arsenal can break down the Latic’s defence. Wigan will look to counter and play the high ball to Heskey as the target man. Djourou and Silvestre will have a rough game but the Swiss defender has been impressive and his strong mentality should stand him in good stead.

Wigan lost against the Arsenal youngsters because of the movement posed by them and if the Gunners can play with a similar fluency and fluidity then look no further than an Arsenal win. Ramsey destroyed Cattermole for Wales U21 and with Robin Van Persie preferring to drop deep, players playing around him will be key. If he and Fabregas are isolated, expect to be frustrated.

Arsenal Key Man: Robin Van Persie   Wigan Danger Man: Emile Heskey

Key Battles:
Johan Djourou v Emile Heskey
Emmanuel Adebayor v Emerson Boyce

Prediction: Arsenal 1-0 Wigan Athletic
